Staff from the House and Home department at Tynwald Mills have been offered jobs with the shopping complex’s new owners.

Earlier this month the Edinburgh Woollen Mill Group acquired Tynwald Mills with a pledge to invest in the site and create new jobs.

But following the acquisition, nine staff employed by House and Home, a separate company that operated a furniture department at the St John’s complex, were ordered off the premises and told not to return. Now all nine have been offered jobs with the Edinburgh Woollen Mill Group.

The new owner of the complex said it had no role in or notice of the decision to send home these workers.

But it said it was keen to provide them with ’certainty and continuity’, and ensure they could play a role in its plans for Tynwald Mills.

A spokesman said: ’We understand employees at House and Home, which is a separate business to Tynwald Mills, were facing some uncertainty.

’We wanted to step up to the plate and offer them roles with Tynwald Mills.

’We are delighted to welcome them into the team and look forward to working with them to deliver our vision for the rejuvenation of Tynwald Mills.’
