More than 20 jobs are at risk at a big finance sector company, the Manx Independent has learned.
Zurich International, an insurance company based at the Isle of Man Business Park on the outskirts of Douglas, has been guarded about what staff have been told.
We understand the jobs will be lost in information technology, but were unable to confirm that.
The company says it is in consultation with staff and is unable to comment further.
We asked for the company to comment on redundancies.
Through a public relations company, it responded without mentioning that word.
In the comment provided by his public relations company, Peter Huber, the chief executive officer of Zurich International, said: ’Aligned to Zurich’s overall strategy, Zurich International is committed to delivering sustainable, profitable, growth in a changing competitive business environment.
’In order to achieve this, and to remain competitive, we must strengthen our technical foundations to facilitate innovation, while also reducing operational complexity to increase our efficiency and speed of delivery to customers.
’We have therefore decided to change our organisational structures, and these changes will be one important element in a number of proposals that will ensure we continue to build an efficient and sustainable business.
’The changes in operations will have an impact on some roles, predominantly in the Isle of Man.
’We have begun a consultation period during which we will discuss the options available to each individual, and if it’s possible those options will include redeployment to roles within the Zurich Group. We are providing help and support to each employee affected by these developments.
’It would be inappropriate to comment further until the consultation process is completed.’
Nobody from the company was available to talk to a reporter.
