Plans by the Isle of Man Post Office to set up a self-service kiosk in a village shop have been postponed.

Introduction of the self-service touch screen kiosk at the Spar store in Clagh Vane, Ballasalla, has already been delayed by the Covid-19 outbreak.

The move follows the closure of Ballasalla’s sub-post office at the end of March.

Now plans for the self-service kiosk at the Clagh Vane Spar have been postponed at the request of Mannin Retail Limited.

This is to allow for the Department of Infrastructure’s planned upgrade work to the building and Mannin Retail’s shop refurbishment to be carried out at the same time.

It is hoped the kiosk will be in situ and available for customers to use by October 18, subject to the timely completion of the building works.

In the meantime, customers can collect parcels from the store between 7am and 8pm seven days a week, which the Post Office says is proving a useful facility for local residents.

Closure of the village’s post office sparked protests and the launch of a community campaign to try to save the branch.
