The people behind one of the island’s leading training and development companies, held an invitation-only event at the Claremont Hotel, Douglas for many of their clients.

The early-evening gathering celebrated TLC Business Solutions’ 15th year in business and introduced a new service that the business has recently made available.

Called Insights Discovery, it is an approach to improving self-awareness and to understanding other people that is claimed to be tried and tested worldwide.

TLC was launched at the beginning of 2004 by Sue Gee and Bill Lawrence to deliver learning and development support to organisations in the Isle of Man.

Bill told the guests in his opening remarks the company remains as motivated today as it was then.

He said: ’We believe the island needs well skilled people who are well led and motivated to deliver for their customers.

’TLC is all about increasing people’s skills and knowledge: making sure that training is available to all at a reasonable cost’.

He also highlighted the importance that the island’s government has attached to development.

Having delivered more than 2,000 courses to more than 10,000 people in 10 countries for 600 corporate clients, TLC claims to have had a ’successful journey so far’.

The business now offers more than 120 different courses, as well as coaching and consultancy support.

As part of its commitment to bringing new and exciting training opportunities to the island, the main event of the evening was a very participative introduction to Insights Discovery, delivered by TLC managing director Sue Gee and TLC associate Christine Sutton, both of whom are qualified practitioners.

Christine works with TLC to deliver HR specialist courses as well as Insights Discovery.

Based on the theories of Swiss psychologist Carl Jung, Insights Discovery is said to be a so-called psychometric tool built to help people understand themselves and others, and to make the most of relationships at work.

It uses a simple and memorable four-colour model to help people understand their style, their strengths and the value they bring to a team.

Sue and Christine told the audience about the benefits of Insights, how it works and what can be achieved using it.

Christine said: ’Insights Discovery and personal effectiveness are about connections - specifically improving them!

’Have you ever wanted to connect with someone, or needed to, and noticed that their different personal style can at times prevent you from establishing a good connection with them?’

Through some practical exercises, the audience learned how, with a little effort, we can make better connections more often.

Sue finished the presentation by highlighting the usefulness of this approach to build a common language, improve team-working, support leadership and to help people working in sales to communicate more effectively.

The evening was rounded off with a celebratory drink and canapes.

TLC’s office is at Global House, Station Road, Ballasalla. Sue said: ’It’s always great to see our clients at a more social event, but we’re especially excited to be able to show them something new that we believe will really add value for them.’
