Tribute has been paid to leading estate agent Peter Wood who was a very well thought of member of the island’s community.

Father of two, Mr Wood, formerly of Glen Vine, recently died at his home in Leicestershire aged 77.

Mr Wood was a prominent estate agent and valuer for more than 40 years based in Douglas.

He started his career in the Isle of Man Bank and then joined Chrystals auctioneers and estate agents where he later became a partner based in their office in Douglas.

He branched out in 1986 to form Deanwood Agencies Ltd in Douglas with his business partner David Dean, which has gone on to be a very successful business in the island with branches in Douglas, Castletown and Ramsey.

Deanwood Agencies Ltd was one of the first estate agencies to open on Saturdays in Victoria Street in the heart of Douglas.

Mr Wood remained as a partner at Deanwood Agencies Ltd until his retirement in 2004 and enjoyed being a member of the Douglas Rotary Club for many years.

Mr Wood was on the board of the MSPCA, Cubbon House care home in Douglas and was involved in the work of the Salvation Army.

In 2013, Mr Wood and his wife Liz moved to Leicestershire to be near his family and enjoyed being a member of Loughborough Rotary Club.

Mr Wood died at his home in Quorn, Leicestershire after a long illness.

He was the father of Simon and Rebecca and had three grandchildren, Megan, Billy and Holly. Mr Wood was born in Nairobi, Kenya and moved to the Isle of Man with his family when he was young. Mr Wood grew up in Castletown where he attended King William’s College.

The family said he would be greatly missed by all who knew him in the Isle of Man and Leicestershire.

A private funeral was held in Leicestershire on May 11.
