Corlett Bolton & Co has completed a transfer of business with Gelling Johnson Farrant (GJF), one of the oldest legal firms in the Isle of Man.

GJF has transferred its business and associated staff to Corlett Bolton, including managing director Elizabeth Parkes, who has become senior advocate at Corlett Bolton.

Mrs Parkes began her training with GJF in 1984 and, after qualifying as an advocate in 1988, has amassed a wealth of experience and a strong reputation in all aspects of Manx legal general practice.

Mrs Parkes is now principally based in Corlett Bolton’s Peel office, enabling it to be open on a much extended basis throughout the working week in addition to the popular evening opening on a Monday, which will be of real benefit for new, existing and transferring clients in the west of the island.

Sally Bolton, director at Corlett Bolton, said: ’As a leading firm established in the Isle of Man for more than 25 years, we pride ourselves on our high level of service and this transfer. The addition of Elizabeth to our growing team, will enable us to further build on services to our island community.’

Ms Bolton added: ’We’re pleased to come to this agreement with such an established and well regarded local firm, it’s a really positive move for us. To ensure our high level of service is maintained for both our existing clients and Gelling Johnson Farrant’s, we’ve put extra infrastructure and resources in place.

’GJF has a long and distinguished history and I’m proud and very excited to have the opportunity to continue this legacy.’

A total of 27 people work for the combined business.

Ms Bolton explained that GJF, which until recently operated from its Myrtle Street office in Douglas, offered a service in all aspects of general practice, which fits in well with the client services offered by Corlett Bolton which has offices in Douglas, Peel and Port St Mary. The firm offers services including civil litigation, family law and employment law.
