This graph shows the dramatic impact of the Covid crisis on the numbers out of work in the island.
And this is likely to be just the beginning.
Latest figures show unemployment more than doubled in March to 850, up from 389 in February and a rise of 501 on March last year – the highest level in five years.
The unemployment rate is now 2.0%, an increase of 1.1% on the previous month.
Sectors hardest hit included catering, tourist accommodation, construction and business services.
During the month 410 job vacancies were notified to the Job Centre.
At the end of the month, 417 remained. Some 44% (182) were full-time
positions and 56% (235 were part-time).
International Labour Organisation estimates, which include those not registered unemployed but may still be looking for work, put the figure for those out of work at 1,445, up from 834 in February, an unemployment rate of 3.4%.
