The number of people registered out of work in the island rose by 10.6% between June and July from 302 to 334.

That is also an increase of 13 people from the same month last year.

However, the island’s unemployment rate remains low at 0.8%, up 0.1% since June.

Of the 334 people registered as out of work, 231 are men and 103 are women. A total of 147 signed onto and 115 left the register over the month.

There was an increase in the number of vacancies notified to the Job Centre. These totalled 835, up from 687 in June.

At the end of the month, 668 vacancies remained unfilled.

The sectors with the highest unfilled posts were catering and entertaining with 209, medical and health services with 86 and retail with 51.

The sector with the highest level of unemployment was ’other business services’ with 51. Meanwhile retail had the second highest number at jobless at 27, followed by the construction industry at 20.
