Long-established electrical shop Waltons will be back on familiar ground in Strand Street from this weekend.

The retailer will be ending its operation on Peel Road and opening tomorrow (Saturday) in Douglas’s main shopping precinct.

Managing director Robert Byers said the move had been planned for some time and would give the business a welcome presence back on the high street.

’Since we stopped selling white goods we don’t need quite so much space,’ he said.

’We wanted to do a bit of refurbishment after the flooding [in 2015] so it was a question of whether we did it here or in a new location.’

He said a quantity of the stock would be held at their warehouse at Cooil Smithy, off Cooil Road, and the town centre shop would be a showcase for a cross section of the goods available.

For around eight weeks the business will be in a temporary shop at 79 Strand Street until its permanent home becomes vacant.

The shop has been on Peel Road for 17 years but started out in Athol Street then occupied the current Clinton’s Cards on Strand Street.
