The Isle of Man has been named the third safest jurisdiction in the world.

We are ranked out of 178 countries, behind only Liechtenstein and Monaco, in the safety index compiled by Canadian business data and research provider STC.

The data for the safety index was compiled in the autumn of 2016.

It takes into account statistics for homicide, kidnapping, political risk, security risk, death from conflict, fragility, natural disaster death rates, traffic death, disaster risk and a global peace index.

With zero or ’inexistent’ ratings for all categories apart from natural world risk, the Isle of Man secures a safety index of 0.99.

Our natural world risk - which multiplying vulnerability with exposure to natural hazards including cyclones, droughts, earthquakes, floods and sea-level rise - is rated at three.

The UK is ranked 41st with a safety index of 0.8.

Most dangerous out of the 178 jurisdiction is Syria with a safety index of 0 and security risk, kidnapping rate and political risk all labelled as ’extreme’.
