A part-Manx group are in high spirits after spending the past couple of weeks playing to packed out crowds at venues around the UK.

Call Me Amour have just played their final shows in support of the US rock group New Years Day and the Los Angeles-based Lowlives.

Altogether, the group, which feature guitarist Geoff Murphy and singer Harry Radford alongside drummer Danny Hall and bassist Brian Hill, played seven dates, with concerts in places such as the Islington O2 Academy, in London, The Garage, in Glasgow, the Manchester O2 Academy and the Birmingham O2 Academy, along with dates in Leeds and Southampton.

The tour came to an end with a sold-out night at the Fleece and Firkin in Bristol.

This latest tour came on the back of an earlier trek with Dinosaur Pile-Up, in December, as well as the release of their second single, ’Deeper’, a re-working of a song written by Geoff’s old band, Jacoba.

’The reception we received from the crowd throughout the tour was unbelievable and we have a fast growing fan base,’ said Geoff.

’Our two recent tours were almost all sold out and have presented us with some amazing opportunities to come in the next year.

’We’re going into the studio to record the new singles in the next month or so and will hopefully be back out on the road to play again.’

Elsewhere, closer to home, the second leg of the Battle of the Bands takes place tomorrow night at the Original Quids Inn, in Douglas, from 8pm.

The line-up couldn’t be more varied for this week’s scrap, with folk-pop group Biskee Brisht going head-to head with noise-merchants Swarf Damage and Shady Acres.

Last week’s heat saw the field reduced to two bands, after The Clown Calls For War were forced to pull out due to illness.

This left Warbird and Boneyard to go toe-to-toe with the former going through to the final round, which is to be held at the start of April.

Finally this week, the island’s Radiohead tribute group OK Computer are in concert at the Town Hall, Port St Mary, on Saturday, from 8pm.

The group features James Craig, Dave Brew, Ian Astill, Chris Honour, Steve Leach, Chris Glaister and Jamie Christian and play classic, note-perfect Radiohead songs from across the group’s career.

Tickets are £10, available on the door.
