Ramsey Commissioners are looking for help naming their new street-cleaning vehicle - and whoever comes up with the best moniker will sweep up a £50 prize.

Lead member for works and development Alby Oldham explained the board had identified the need for a machine capable of cleaning areas that the larger vehicles could not reach.

It led to the purchase of the £75,000 Scarab M25H compact sweeper.

’It’s an extremely versatile machine, ideal for reaching awkward, confined areas, such as back lanes,’ said Mr Oldham.

’Importantly, the considerable investment the vehicle represents not only demonstrates the commission’s continuing commitment to town centre regeneration but also to raising environmental standards in Ramsey.’

He added: ’It is for these reasons and, given that the vehicle is set to become a familiar sight in the town, that the commissioners decided to hold a competition to name our latest addition to the fleet.’ Name the Scarab entries can be made on Ramsey Commissioners’ Facebook page or by emailing mailto:[email protected] and typing ’SCARAB’ in the subject line.

The closing date for entries is Monday, October 9.
