An ambulance will visit communities around the Isle of Man this week to offer information and advice about cancer.

The Isle of Man Anti-Cancer Association is using an Isle of Man Ambulance Service vehicle for its Awareness Ambulance tour, which will visit Port Erin, Ramsey, Peel and Douglas.

Health professionals will be on board to answer questions about the signs and symptoms of cancer and cancer screening.

The vehicle will also have a private area where people can discuss concerns in confidence.

Organisers say the initiative is aimed at people who may have questions about cancer which they have been reluctant to raise or have not had time to discuss with their doctor.

The tour begins at Tesco on Bridson Street in Port Erin today (Monday, September 7), where the ambulance will be available from 10am until 4pm.

It will then visit Tesco on Bowring Road in Ramsey tomorrow (Tuesday), followed by the Derby Road store in Peel on Wednesday.

The final stop will be Tesco on Victoria Road in Douglas on Thursday.

The ambulance will be available between 10am and 4pm at each location.

The Isle of Man Anti-Cancer Association says bringing cancer information directly into local communities is one part of its work on the island.

The charity also raises money to fund research into cancer, its causes and treatment, as well as equipment at UK hospitals which provide treatment to Manx patients.

In a statement, the association thanked the Isle of Man Ambulance Service, Tesco and local commissioners for supporting the initiative.
