The Isle of Man Anti-Cancer Association has held a diamond jubilee dinner.

This was part of a number of activities throughout the year, celebrating 60 years in which the association has raised and disbursed more than £22 million for the benefit of those in the island affected by cancer.

Lieutenant Governor Sir Richard Gozney and Lady Gozney, patron of the Isle of Man Anti-Cancer Association, went to the event at at Woodbourne House in Douglas with a number of other guests. The evening raised £5,000.

Malcolm Clague, chairman of the association, said: ’The event was the centre-piece of a fortnight of promotion of cancer awareness around the island by the association, assisted by clinical nurse specialists and the ambulance service.

’Professor Derek Alderson, the president of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, delivered an entertaining after-dinner talk and, earlier that day, Professor Michael Griffin OBE, president of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh reflected on "talking to cancer patients" at a sponsored lunchtime lecture at Keyll Darree for hospital staff.

’Both presidents, former surgical colleagues of mine, are internationally renowned in the field of cancer surgery.’
