A nostalgic trip down memory lane has raised £450 for a northern care home.

The Grest Home in Ramsey received the money after Viv Quane and Judy Kelly saw a picture of the original Dal Vetch, a large house in Sulby.

They discovered the picture was part of a presentation by Ron and Brenda Shimmin, detailing the Sulby River from its source to the estuary.

Mrs Shimmin is a Sulby native so has collected a large number of pictures which show how the area was and how it changed throughout the years.

Mr and Mrs Shimmins agreed to do a presentation of their pictures and to donate the money to a charity based in Lezayre.

They decided to donate the funds to the Grest Home in honour of Miss Myra Kelly MBE, who had been matron at Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital and latterly a resident of the home.

During the presentation, which was attended by more than 100 people, at Sulby Community Hall, a group of volunteers led by Mrs Quane and Mrs Kelly provided tea and cakes and the event raised £450.

Mrs Quane explained: ’The slide show was fascinating, showing pictures of buildings which had long since been replaced and the Upper Sulby Glen which has now been covered by the Reservoir.

’It was a trip down memory lane.’

The money raised by the event was spent on providing new blinds for the care home.
