Douglas Council will consider whether to run its carnival in 2021, but there will not be an event held this year.
The council’s regeneration and community committee agreed that due to the promenade regeneration scheme it is impractical to hold the carnival this year.
Alternative routes to the traditional promenade parade were considered last year. However, the council said that the proposed routes were ’deemed unfeasible’.
Since the council relaunched the carnival in 2014, the event had proved popular, attracting thousands of participants and spectators to the island’s capital.
Councillor Stephen Pitts has previously said the carnival will return once the prom works are finished.
