Some of the funds raised from last year’s Parish Walk are helping to support Manx competitors at this year’s Island Games.
The Manx Harriers athletics club has donated £500 to each of its 17 club members who have been selected to represent the Isle of Man at the Island Games in Gibraltar this summer.
The club is using £5,000 from the surplus from the 2018 Parish Walk, and a further £3,500 from the Joan Powell Memorial Fund, to help with travel costs.
Every year the Parish Walk organising committee donates any profits from the race to Manx Harriers to fund travel for athletes competing in events off-island.
One of the athletes being supported is long-distance runner Ollie Lockley.
He has been selected to compete in the Island Games half-marathon and is one of Team Isle of Man’s main hopes for a gold medal having made great progress in international events in recent years. His wins in 2018 included the prestigious Great Ireland Run 10K road race in Dublin while representing Team England.
Hed retained his Isle of Man Easter Festival of Running title by winning the 10km and 5k, races, and finishing third in the Peel Hill race.
