The Eastern Civic Amenity Site could be set to move as the committee in charge has identified two sites where it could be based in future.
Representatives from the five local authorities also form the committee which oversees the operations of the site.
The site itself has been operated for a number of years, having previously been run by central government.
The local authorities are now responsible for it as the island’s central tip.
However, according to the latest meeting of the Eastern District Civic Amenity Site Joint Committee, the site may be moving as the lease for the site approaches its end.
The agenda for Douglas Council records: ’The secretary [Dana Eynon] advised that initial examination of potential alternative sites for relocation of the Civic Amenity Site had been undertaken and two sites identified. However, in the past week a further potential alternative had become known.’
Location
The potential third site had delayed a report into the site’s location being ready for discussion.
The council’s agenda added: ’Mrs Eynon felt that due to the expiry of the current lease of the site in January 2021, the matter was becoming urgent and she suggested a special meeting be held to consider it as soon as the report could be produced.’ It was revealed that a special meeting of the committee be held today (Tuesday, October 15) at 2.30pm to consider the future of the site.
It was also revealed that the eastern authorities had been invited to tender for the administration and supervision of the southern district amenity site in Port Erin. However, the committee decided that it didn’t have the resources required for taking on another district’s site and decided not to seek the tender for it.
