Services will take place across the island today to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the two world wars and later conflicts.
This Sunday (November 10) will see Douglas Council’s remembrance service begin with a parade from Duke Street at 9.15am.
The march will pass through Strand Street, Castle Street, Marina Road, St Thomas’ Walk, Market Street and Church Road Marina to St Thomas’ Church. A church service will start at 10am.
The service will end at 10.40am in time for people to walk over to the War Memorial on Douglas Promenade to observe a two minutes’ silence at 11am. Wreath laying will follow.
A final parade will form on the promenade alongside the War Memorial and following the salute opposite the Gaiety Theatre by Douglas Mayor Jon Joughin, it will proceed into Marina Road and retrace the route to Market Hill.
In the event of bad weather, parades may be abandoned but the two minutes’ silence will go ahead.
Onchan will have its parade on Sunday starting at the rear of the Co-Op at 9.20am. It will head to St Peter’s Church for the start of a service at 9.45am. At 10.45am the parade will then head to the village’s war memorial with a two minutes’ silence at 11am.
The annual Civic Service of Remembrance in Ramsey will take place at the War Memorial in the Courthouse grounds on Sunday at 10.50am.
Free public transport will be given to participants in the Remembrance Day commemorations on Sunday. This applies to anyone in uniform, including cadets and scouts, and those with evidence of their military service.
The Isle of Man Freethinkers will hold a service in the Promenade Suite at the Villa Marina on Monday from 7pm.
Ayns Cooinaghtyn (In Remembrance) is open to all, ’regardless of national origin, religious belief or lack of it’ the group said.
The event will share new Manx music which has been composed specifically for the occasion.
