The entrance to the car park in Noble’s Park will change in time for next year’s TT.

Last month we reported members of Douglas Council had raised concerns from residents over congestion on St Ninian’s Road due to the car park.

Chairman of the regeneration committee, councillor Stephen Pitts, told members that following their discussions with the Department for Enteprise, people wanting to park in the field will enter via the St Ninian’s Church entrance on the road, through the newly created gate in the church wall and into the car park.

To exit, they will go down past the pavillion and down to Upper Dukes Street.

There had been complaints from residents that traffic entering and exiting the park being sent in the same direction had led to St Ninian’s Road being blocked at times.

The change in direction was welcomed by councillors Ian Clague and John Skinner who had both been pushing for the change. Mr Clague asked why the change couldn’t be made in time for this year’s Festival of Motorcycling, due to start on August 17.

Mr Pitts said he had asked but ’the emergency services said no’.

Mr Clague asked if it was possible to seek clarification as to why it couldn’t be done in time for this year.

Mr Skinner followed up by asking if residents of St Nininan’s Court will be told.

Some residents contacted councillors to tell them they were not aware of this year’s plan, despite the management company assuring the council they had been.

Mr Pitts replied: ’I will seek to find out why and circulate the reason to members.

’As for St Nininan’s Court, we were told that residents were informed. If they weren’t then I can only apologise.’
