Douglas primary school children’s green-fingered talent has been recognised in the town council’s annual daffodil-growing competition.

More than 100 classes across 13 schools took part in the challenge, which saw Poppy Thornton from St Mary’s RC School emerge overall school winner in the best daffodil category and Alice Gregory, from Scoill Yn Jubilee, take first prize for best decorated pot, while the regeneration and community committee chairman’s special commendation prize went to Chloe Tyson from Anagh Coar School.

One of the competition judges, the council’s assistant head of parks (technical), Graham Newsome, added that such had been the interest shown by teaching staff a category for teachers would be included in next year’s programme.

Presiding over the prize presentation were the Mayor and Mayoress of Douglas Jon and Angela Joughin.
