The life and adventures of a bright-eyed and lovable insect have formed the basis of the new book by local children’s author Maggie Robinson.
’Clutterbug’ tells the story of a family of ladybirds, who live in amongst the forest floor, and of one little ladybird in particular, who is christened ’Clutterbug’, after she born was born with more spots than most.
The story follows her adventures as she grows up with her large family of brothers and sisters, and eventually meets the ladybird of her dreams.
Maggie explains where she dreamt up the character of Clutterbug.
’A few years ago, I wanted to start a company, which I called Clutterbug,’ she said. ’I had a logo which featured this lovely ladybird character.
’The company didn’t take off, but I loved my ladybird! She was gorgeous with long eyelashes. A really lovely little thing, So I wanted to turn her into a book.’
This self-published book is Maggie’s fourth children’s story, following on from ’George- a cat with no tail, released last year’.
’It has been absolutely beautifully illustrated by Katie Quine, who has just completed a fine art degree.
’So far it has been very well received. It is in most local book shops, such as the Lexicon in the Isle of Man, but it is also in Mostly Manx, Presence of Man, the Artists and Crofter’s loft, and similar places that promote local talent.’
Clutterbug is out now.
