Chloe Rollitt, aged nine, from Braddan has been nominated for the Positive Role Model Awards at the National Diversity Awards 2020 for her fundraising activities in the island.
Chloe suffered a traumatic brain injury at birth and now suffers from cerebral palsy, which affects the whole right hand side of her body; ADHD, and epilepsy, but she doesn’t let it stop her.
Last year she took part in the Superhero TRI which is a sporting event for people with disabilities. In the event she swam 150 metres in Dorney Lake. She took part dressed as Wonder Woman and was interviewed afterwards by Claire Balding.
Chloe said: ’I decided to challenge myself and raise some money for the children’s ward at Noble’s Hospital to help the sick children. I wanted to raise £4,000 but people were so generous and I actually raised £12,780. This paid for parent beds for every child’s bed in the hospital, six iPads, toys and games.’
Chloe has continued with her fundraising and has now raised more than £26,000 .
The award is decided by a public online vote and Chloe’s mum, Joanne, said: ’She is the only Manx person to be nominated so far and we are hoping to win the votes of our island residents and all get behind her. She has so far gained 716 votes but we are hoping to boost this to well over 1,000 if possible.’
