Closer collaboration is being explored by the local authorites in Malew parish and Port Erin.

The authorities have signed a memorandum of understanding ’to explore a closer working collaboration and identifying strategic operational opportunities to offer increased value to ratepayers of each local authority area.’

A working group held its first meeting on April 24 and identified opportunities for further investigation.

Collaboration will initially focus on waste services - the largest expenditure of both authorities - with scope and remit to expand into other services such as manpower and machinery.

Meanwhile Port St Mary Commissioners confirmed that they are not discussing amalgamation with Port Erin, but will consult the public if it does.
