A film with a message about climate change is to be screened for free at the cathedral in Peel next week.
’Home’ is being shown in what is described as a ’Week of Global Action’ across the island (from September 20 to 29). It i highlighting the climate and ecological emergency.
Home is a film by Yann Arthus-Bertrand, famous for The Earth from Above, a photographic portrait of aerial shots of the planet, that shows 50 countries from the sky.
Film critic Jason Buchanan said: ’We are afforded the unique opportunity to witness our changing environment from an entirely new vantage point.’
He added that the film was produced to inspire action and encourage thoughtful debate.
Diocesan environmental officer Cheryl Cousins said: ’The diocese is a partner in the Unesco Biospehere Isle of Man and is committed to the A Rocha Eco Church Initiative, where churches and chapels across the island are all working towards reducing their carbon footprint.
’It fully supports the Isle of Man Climate Change Coalition in raising awareness of the need for action in tackling this climate emergency.
’This film is a celebration of the interconnectedness of the wholeness and beauty of planet Earth, weighed against the impact of humankind upon our Home.’
The film will be shown at the cathedral at 7.30pm on Wednesday, September 25. There is no need to book.
Mrs Cousins added: ’Come in warm clothes as we will be saving on fossil fuels. Donations to help cover costs would be much appreciated.’
