Perhaps best known as the site of the world’s largest surviving waterwheel, Laxey has much more to offer than just its feat of Victorian engineering and makes for an enjoyable and fun day out.

From the gorgeous beach bordered by cliffs and harbour breakwater to the mountain and electric railways, there’s always something to entertain both children and adults alike.

Why not get down to the Beach for an ice-cream and a walk along the sands or have a trip round the wonderful industrial heritage sites such as the Great Laxey Wheel and the Snaefell Wheel in the Valley Gardens?

Don’t forget, there are plenty of great eateries throughout Laxey, some unique shopping, and a wonderful art gallery at the Woollen Mills.

And why not turn a great day out into a great weekend with a stay at Laxey Campsite, with motorhome pitches and pre-erected tents available? Contact 861241 for details.

The Ballacregga Cornmill and Salmon Lake Bar and Restaurant is a far cry from the prior industrial use of the buildings, and the team has worked tirelessly to convert the former factory complex into a tea room, restaurant, and conference/exhibition centre that complements the famous Lady Isabella.

The Cornmill tea rooms serve breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea with homemade scones and cakes, and its outdoor terrace can comfortably seat 40-plus diners. The Salmon Lake Bar and Restaurant can cater for 100+ guests, making it the ideal choice for weddings and functions.

Its Sunday carvery is extremely popular, with both sit-in and takeaway options available. However, diners may prefer to ’eat in’ to make use of the balcony, which boasts spectacular views of the Laxey Wheel.

They also offer two smaller rooms, The Waterfall Room and The Tartan Room, that are both perfect for private parties with each room holding 25+ guests. The complex also has a private car park with space for more than 30 cars, and it holds different themed events in the restaurant, with barbecues during the warmer months.

The Ballacregga Cornmill and Salmon Lake Bar and Restaurant is currently open from 9.30am until 4pm, but keep an eye on its Facebook page for extended hours from Easter onward.
