Manx Telecom is asking Ramsey Commissioners to grant a wayleave on land at Bircham Avenue so that it can instal five poles to provide neighbouring properties with superfast fibre broadband.
The board, however, is not satisfied that poles are the best option and will ask the company to consider laying the wires underground.
The situation mirrors one at the end of last year in the south of the island.
Manx Telecom was forced to look at alternatives for its rollout of fibre broadband after a backlash from residents.
Residents in the Ballacriy Estate in Colby campaigned against the company’s plans to instal telephone poles around the estate for the roll out of high-speed internet.
Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse raised the matter in the House of Keys.
