The Isle of Man’s Gold Coast campaign has officially got under way in Australia.

Triathlete Jenny Newbery was the first of the 32-strong Manx team in action, taking part in the women’s sprint triathlon.

The 25-year-old from Ballasalla finished 19th out of 24 in what was her first international event.

Bermudan Flora Duffy took the Games’ first gold medal after leading almost from start to finish in the event which took place in hot and windy conditions.

Speaking after the gruelling event, Newbery said she was shattered but very happy and had been thankful for the huge amount of Manx support around the course.
