The deadline for community groups to apply for grants from a Manx Telecom initiative is looming.

Midnight on September 30 is the last chance for then to apply for a 2017 It’s Our Community grant.

The annual scheme is open to charities, sports clubs, schools, voluntary or community groups.

Grants ranging from £100 to £1,000 are awarded for a wide range of purposes such as buying equipment, decorating club rooms or other meeting places, or paying to produce leaflets or other materials to promote events - but there are many other possibilities.

Applicants have to fill in a form to apply and Manx Telecom says all the applications are judged by a panel on a case-by-case basis.

Since it began in 2008 Manx Telecom’s It’s Our Community scheme has donated tens of thousands of pounds to good causes across the island.

Recipients in recent years have included schools, nurseries, youth groups, over 60s clubs, veterans’ associations, church groups, sports clubs, choirs, orchestras and youth bands.

Last year a total of 13 organisations received grants, including 1st Ballaugh Scout Group, Manx Retirement Association, Marown and District Bowling Club, Manx Wildlife Trust and Port Erin RNLI.

To apply for a grant go to www.manxtelecom.com/itsourcommunity or phone Marg McGee at Manx Telecom on 636030.
