I would like to give a shout out to all workers in Shoprite island- wide, especially Gillian Harvey and Amanda Jane Noble. Thanks for making sure we are kept fed and have a good stock of toilet paper of course.

We would like to nominate Vicki Hewison and her Laxey Lifeline team for their kindness and efficiency in supplying us and many other Garff residents with a weekly supply of groceries and essentials.

The system is faultless, clever and entirely consistent with the rules on social distancing. She and her team, including her son James, are stars who we salute.

I would like to nominate Gary Christian to be thanked for community kindness.

Gary Christian, who is an employee of Jacksons and also Tesco, has been playing guitar outside Tesco to entertain customers whilst they waited in the long queue.

Gary did this in his breaks and lunch, plus also occasionally on his days off.

He wanted to help towards raising money for my 3 Country Challenge and chosen charities, Hospice Isle of Man and Alzheimer’s society of Ireland and UK/Isle of Man. To date he has raised £510, but continues to play to help raise more .

I personally would like to thank Gary along with the management at Tesco for allowing him to do this, but especially thank all the customers of Tesco for their kind donations.

If anyone would still like to donate, they can do so at www.justgiving.com/

A big shout out and thank you to the Noble’s pharmacy and the St John Ambulance volunteers. I normally have to collect my MS medication prescriptions from the pharmacy at Noble’s monthly, as I have received a shielding letter the pharmacy arranged for my meds to be safely delivered by St John Ambulance. Thank you.

Big shout out to the girls on the welcome desk at Lloyds bank on Prospect Hill.

My mum went there last week as she had an issue with her bank card.

She is 85 and would have found it difficult to sort on the phone.

No queue to get in and the staff were really helpful and friendly. They sorted out everything for her and when she thanked them for their help, they assured her that was what they were there for and to never hesitate to come in and ask for their help. She was really happy with the help they gave her and with how friendly and reassuring they were.

Big shout out to Manx Gas. They come in for a lot of criticism at times but today they provided an excellent service. I woke up this morning to no hot water and a minor fault on my new boiler.

The boiler is due its first service but in the grand scheme of things not that important and could have waited a little longer.

However, I called Manx Gas at 9am to report the fault.

By 9.50am I had an engineer at my home who not only fixed the fault but serviced the boiler as well.

All completed by 10.50am and we have hot water again. Excellent customer service, social distancing respected and PPE worn.

Just want to say a huge thank you to Sue Biggart, children’s community nurse.

Our 21-month daughter has an ongoing issue and unfortunately, due to the lockdown all her appointments were cancelled which meant investigations were put on hold.

Sue has been contacting us and checking in. After concerns yesterday, Sue and Dr Jospeh arranged a home visit for Sue to give Freya some treatment.

A couple of hours later and Sue was here, after her shift had finished! Sue was amazing, professional and put us all at ease with her bubbly personality.

Today, Sue arrived again but this time with a little gift for Freya to hopefully distract her from the PPE (for a 21 month old us all in PPE and a nurse giving her treatment isn’t the best combination).

This helped calm her down and helped distract her from the discomfort and pain once Sue had left. Thank you so much Sue.

You are a truly wonderful nurse and have really helped us knowing you are just at the other end of the phone.

Can I have a shout out to my dad who is amazing, he’s been working hard on the buses through the pandemic and has been a godsend when I had to self isolate. He also lost his mum in February but kept going, he needs a medal but a shout-out will have to do!

Shout out to Kinrade’s chemist in Douglas. Family run and community oriented the amazing staff consistently go above and beyond to make their customers feel safe and cared for. They are working tirelessly to ensure medications are ready and they are never too busy to answer questions or give advice. Store has been carefully redesigned to maximize social distancing -

Isle of Man Newspapers and Manx Telecom are giving readers the chance to thank people who’ve gone out of their way to help others during this difficult time.

You probably read some in this week’s Manx Independent and Isle of Man Examiner.
