The annual St John’s produce show attracted nearly 630 entries ranging from jams and cakes to flowers and vegetables.
The event at St John’s Methodist Church hall was attended by Beach Buddies founder Bill Dale who judged the exhibits and later handed out prizes.
The chairman of the show, Sue Staley, said: ’There was an increase on the 2017 show in the vegetable classes although entries in the flowers section were slightly down, this no doubt being due to the very dry spell of weather the island has had this summer.
’The committee were delighted to welcome Bill Dale to judge the best overall exhibit in show.
’Best exhibits in each section were brought forward and after much deliberation Bill chose a wonderful collection of vegetables, exhibited by Ian Watterson, a great supporter of St John’s Show.’
Among the other winners were Nicky Kermode, who won a prize for her lemon meringue pie, Clyde Quine who won best dahlia and Leslie and Margaret Halsall who won best potato.
Other categories included best confectionery, best plum jam and best chocolate cake.
One of the big winners was Ryan Kneen, 12, who won prizes for children’s confectionery, most entries in children’s confectionery, the Gillian Lace Memorial Cup for best biscuits and best exhibit in children’s confectionery.
Proceeds from the event were shared between Beach Buddies and Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation.
