A ’live projectile’ found on the coast has been destroyed in a controlled explosion.

A member of the public reported an object on Tuesday afternoon after it was discovered in a rock pool south of Queen’s Pier, on Ballure shore, Ramsey.

Coastguards protected the site while waiting for the arrival of a Royal Navy bomb disposal unit from Scotland last night.

The 12-inch live projectile, which had been in the water for many years, was moved around 20 yards to a sandy area where it was exploded under controlled conditions at around 8.15pm.

The area was kept secure by members of Ramsey Coastguard team.

People are reminded to contact the Coastguard straight away using 999 if they find an unusual or suspicious object on the coast.
