A motorcyclist, originally from the island but living in Fleetwood at the time of death, died at the scene from his injuries.

Trevor Paul Cowell, of Hathaway Road, Fleetwood, Lancashire, died near Guthrie’s Memorial on the Mountain Road last week.

The inquest into the 56-year-old’s death was opened and adjourned by Coroner Jayne Hughes at Douglas Courthouse. Mrs Hughes said a report from a paramedic who attended the scene detailed that Mr Cowell has been involved in a ’head-on collision’.

Mrs Hughes also confirmed that the consultant pathologist’s initial finding was that he died as a result of multiple injuries caused by a road traffic collision.

She extended her condolences to Mr Cowell’s family and friends. As investigations are ongoing into the cause of the crash, Mrs Hughes adjourned the inquest to a date yet to be determined.
