A man has appeared before magistrates after punching a glass panel in a door at Jaks bar.

Desmond Fitzgerald pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour on licensed premises and property damage.

The case was adjourned until January 13 as no value for the damaged door has been provided.

Prosecuting advocate Hazel Carroon told the court that 37-year-old Fitzgerald was upstairs in Jaks on December 21 at 4.45pm.

He came downstairs and was said to be extremely intoxicated.

Staff refused to serve him any more alcohol but Fitzgerald said: ’We’ll see about that.’

He then tried to grab a pint which was on the bar but staff moved it away from him and he was asked to leave.

Fitzgerald, who lives at Clifton Terrace in Douglas, then swore and said: ’You’ll have to make me.’

At this point another customer told him he wasn’t going to get served but Fitzgerald then moved towards him, only to be kept away by staff.

He was escorted out by bouncers as he continued swearing.

Once outside, Fitzgerald initially walked off but when he saw the bar manager come out, he ran back towards the pub.

The manager locked him out but he then punched the glass in the door, causing a large crack.

Security staff went outside and detained him until police arrived.

When interviewed by police, Fitzgerald admitted he was extremely intoxicated and said he could not remember anything, but added that it did not sound like him.

Magistrates adjourned sentencing until a valuation for the door can be provided.
