Gavin William Patterson, aged 39, care of the prison, has pleaded not guilty to possessing cannabis.
He appeared in court via video link from the prison and was represented by advocate David Reynolds.
The offence is alleged to have been committed on May 25 last year and involve 12.3 grams of the class B drug, valued by police at £246.
A pre-trial review will be held on April 25 in summary court.
No bail application was made.
