A hospital consultant has been found guilty of causing the death of a biker by careless driving.
Dr Philip Windrum, of Cooper’s Mill Avenue, Dundonald, Belfast, was convicted following a nine-day trial.
Road racing fan Mr Windrum was turning right onto the A3 at Ballaskyr on Mad Sunday last year when his Nissan Juke collided with a Yamaha bike ridden by retired police officer Mr Baker.
Both men had been watching the racing - Mr Windrum from Ballaskyr Farm and Mr Baker from Handley’s Corner - and the collision took place shortly after the roads open car went past.
Mr Baker, 69, was treated for his injuries by the public and paramedics at the scene.
He was airlifted to Noble’s Hospital but died later.
Finding Mr Windrum guilty of causing death by driving without due care and attention, Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told him he had made an error of judgement.
She said that a community service order was the most appropriate sentence but didn’t rule out other sentencing options.
Dr Windrum was granted bail until his sentencing on August 8.
