A 45-year-old Douglas man has been put on probation for six months.

James Adrian Tinkler admitted common assault, and has also been ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.

A probation report said that the defendant, who lives at Christian Road, had been struggling with his mental health.

He was also said to have been misusing prescription medication and alcohol.

The report said that a short period of probation would be beneficial.

Duty advocate John Wright said that he had discussed probation’s recommendation with the defendant and his support work, and it was agreed that it would be the right way to deal with the offence.

Tinkler will pay the prosecution costs at a rate of £10 per week, deducted from benefits.
