A 34-year-old drink-driver has won back his licence early.

Ryan Moore was banned from driving for four years in October 2019, but on Thursday magistrates restored his licence, though he will still have to pass an extended driving test and the theory test before he can drive again.

Prosecution advocate Hazel Carroon told the court that Moore, who lives at Linden Gardens in Douglas, was seen driving a Ford Focus on Peel Road in Douglas on August 24, 2019.

The vehicle was said to have been weaving so police stopped him and Moore admitted he had been drinking.

At police headquarters he failed a breathalyser test with a reading of 62. The legal limit is 35.

Moore told police that he had bought the vehicle that morning and decided to move it from the promenade to his father’s home to avoid the temptation of driving.

He admitted drink-driving, driving while disqualified and having no insurance.

As well as the four-year ban, he was sentenced to eight months custody, suspended for two years, and also made him the subject of a two-year suspended sentence supervision order.

He was also ordered to pay a £400 fine for the no insurance offence.

On Thursday, Moore provided evidence that he had completed a drink-driving rehabilitation course as well as a reference from his employer.

He was said to have completed the suspended sentence supervision order and paid the £400 fine.

He said that the ban made his work difficult as he had to travel to sites but his employer had been very helpful.

Magistrates also took into account the impact the ban had had on Moore’s family life and his children.
