A lorry driver from Liverpool has appeared in court accused of trying to smuggle £47,530 in cash off the island on the ferry.
Thomas William Harrison is charged with attempting to remove criminal property from the Isle of Man.
The 40-year-old, who lives at Java Road, is yet to enter a plea.
Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court that the money was found in a hidden compartment of a Renault Twingo at the Sea Terminal on February 24 at 7pm.

Mr Harrison said that he had been visiting the island to ‘go for a beer with mates’.
Defence advocate Kate Alexander asked for an adjournment to allow time to review the case with her client.
Mr Harrison made a bail application which was opposed by the prosecution.
Deputy High Bailiff James Brooks refused bail and Mr Harrison is remanded in custody.
The case was adjourned until March 8 when he will appear in court via video link from the prison.
