A teenager has admitted an assault causing grievous bodily harm after an attack left a man with a fractured eye socket.

Connor Ethan Gilardoni punched his victim several times outside a pub in Ramsey.

Magistrates deemed the case too serious for summary court and committed the 19-year-old to the Court of General Gaol Delivery for sentencing.

Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court that Gilardoni, who lives at Tynwald Road in Douglas, approached the victim outside the Commercial pub in Market Place on October 23 at 10.22pm.

He pushed the man, who then pushed him back, but Gilardoni then punched him in the face and followed it up with multiple punches to his head and body.

The man fell to the ground, then got up, which prompted Gilardoni to aim more punches at him before leaving.

The victim was diagnosed with a fractured eye socket at the hospital.

CCTV footage of the incident was viewed and Gilardoni was arrested on November 5.

The court heard that he has no previous convictions.

Ms Cubbon submitted that the case was not suitable for summary court sentencing, describing it as a ’nasty assault’, involving an unprovoked attack outside licensed premises.

Defence advocate Paul Glover said that there had been some retaliation from the victim but Gilardoni accepted he had gone too far.

Mr Glover said that the case could be dealt with in summary court and asked for a probation report to be prepared before sentencing.

Magistrates declined jurisdiction and ordered that the probation report consider all sentencing options, including custody.

Gilardoni will appear at the higher court on March 11.

Bail was granted in the sum of £500 with a condition to contact probation services.
