A Port Erin man whose van had 28 defects has been fined £430.

David Newton’s licence was also endorsed with three points, after he admitted having a vehicle in a dangerous condition.

Police saw the defendant’s van at Peveril Square in Douglas on May 28.

They suspected it was unroadworthy and a vehicle examiner later assessed it as having 28 defects.

Newton, 72, of Reayrt Y Chrink, was represented in court by duty advocate John Wright, who said the defendant had held a clean licence for 56 years.

He said the van was owned by the company Newton was a director of and not driven daily by him.

He must also pay £50 prosecution costs and will pay £25 per week.
