A woman who thrust a glass in a man’s face at 1886 bar has admitted assault causing actual bodily harm.

Alysha Katherine Elizabeth Kelly said that she intended only to throw a drink at him but admitted being reckless in her actions.

The man suffered a chipped crown, which required £510-worth of dental repair work.

Kelly, who lives at Barrule Drive, Onchan, will be sentenced on January 25 after a probation report has been completed.

Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court how Kelly was at 1886 bar on June 27 at 1.50am.

She was said to be taking videos of the victim, who was on a stage in the bar.

As the man was leaving Kelly threw a drink at him but the glass also hit him in the face, chipping his tooth and cutting his lip.

Kelly, whose age was not given in court, was later arrested and charged with ABH.

During an interview with police she claimed she had not intended to hit the man with the glass and had only meant to throw the drink at him.

Kelly said that she felt aggrieved at the man’s treatment of one of her friends.

Ms Cubbon submitted that the case was suitable to remain in summary court for sentencing.

Defence advocate Ian Kermode entered a basis of plea for his client in which Kelly reiterated her stance that she had not intended to strike the man with the glass but accepting it was a reckless spur of the moment act while she was intoxicated.

The advocate said that it had been a crown rather than a tooth that had been damaged.

The court heard that Kelly has no previous convictions.

Mr Kermode agreed that the case should remain in summary court and asked for a probation report to be prepared before sentencing.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes accepted summary court jurisdiction and ordered that the report consider all sentencing options, including custody.

Bail was granted in the sum of £500 with conditions to live at her home address, to contact probation, and not leave the island without court consent.
