The Isle of Man Creamery has introduced a range of Covid-19 safety measures, including a temperature scanning machine which all staff must use to enter the Creamery building.
The touch-free scanning unit uses thermographic technology to measure forehead temperature as staff stand in front of it.
If a reading over 37.8C is given then they will receive an alert which requires them to leave the building, self-isolate and call the government Covid-19 hotline on 111.
As an added feature, it can also detect if the user is not wearing a mask and alert them to put one on before entering the building - as the Creamery has been operating a mask-wearing policy since the announcement of the circuit-breaker lockdown.
There was also a period of preparation following the first lockdown last year, which allowed the Creamery to ensure that they had sufficient stocks of PPE should another lockdown occur.
Managing director Findlay Macleod said: ’Due to the nature of our business, supplying the island with essential dairy products, it’s very important for us to protect our workforce and ensure their wellbeing.
’These investments demonstrate our commitment to fostering a safe working environment for our key workers and keeping the supply of products for our customers running smoothly during these difficult times.’
The Creamery stressed that there is ’no evidence’ that Covid-19 can be spread through contact with food or food packaging.
