Hundreds of people supported the RNLI by attending a fun day in Port St Mary.
The fundraising event took place at Alfred Pier on Sunday (August 12) and featured a variety of exciting displays and performances in a bid to raise money for the charity.
This included musical performances by Shoddywaddy and Dicky Best, as well as a bouncy castle and numerous stalls and activities for entertainment.
David Kneen, Port St Mary’s RNLI volunteer lifeboat press officer, said the day had been ’very successful’.
But he voiced his disappointment about the helicopter display, which was cancelled due to bad weather in Wales.
A total of four lifeboats were put on display to the public, two from Douglas and two from Port St Mary.
Douglas RNLI brought its new Mersey class (Marine Engineer) as well as the Tyne class (Sir William Hillary) , which goes out of service in Douglas tomorrow (Friday).
The RNLI is a charity that focuses on saving the lives of people at sea. It is made up of hundreds of volunteers that are on call around the clock, providing emergency service as well as seasonal lifeguarding within the UK and Ireland.
Jack Emmerson, who joined the charity three years ago, is urging people to sign up to volunteer, saying: ’No matter what background or experience on the water, if you’re looking for an out of the ordinary challenge, then I’d recommend it.’
People aged 17 or older who are living or working in the south are encouraged to consider volunteering.
