Before shutting its cafe doors, Cycle 360 put smiles on NHS workers’ faces with a 50% discount on food and hot drinks.

It was the Douglas business’s mission to say a big ’thank you’ to the island’s frontline staff facing the coronavirus pandemic - all before developing circumstances led to its gym, fitness club and cafe having to temporarily close.

On March 18, before the island’s first confirmed case of Covid-19, the Cycle 360 team announced it would be ’spreading a little love’ by offering a 50% discount in its cafe to NHS workers.

Cameron Lee, assistant manager at Cycle 360 cafe, said: ’Everyone is a human being and we’re all in the same boat, but professionally we are affected in different ways.

’Unfortunately we live in a society that takes important professionals for granted, such as teachers, social workers, caregivers and NHS staff.’

The business’s founders, Mark and Sacha Horsthuis, felt it was important to support NHS workers as they are ’really putting in the work in our darkest hours’, Cameron said. ’We had a nurse come in and she said she had just finished a long night shift. She looked knackered.

’Being able to give her a big breakfast and coffee for good value in price was not only good for her, to lift her spirits up, but it was nice for us to say "thank you",’ he said.

’It’s our small token of appreciation for those on the frontline.’
