A group of eight cyclists from the island recently completed the iconic Land’s End to John O’Groats Cycle challenge sponsored by Old Mutual International, raising more than £12,000 for The Children’s Centre.

Starting at Land’s End in Cornwall, they pedalled their way t over Dartmoor and north along the Welsh border, skirting the Lake District into Scotland, via lochs and mountains to the north coast and John O’Groats, covering almost 1,000 miles.

Each cyclist completed the trip over nine days and achieved their ambition of making it from one end of Great Britain to the other under their own steam whilst also raising funds to help local children, young people and families.

The team comprised Angus Alexander, Anne Campbell, Pete Russell, Paul Rowley, Paul Quirk, Lesley Joyce, Mike Gardner, Rob Quane, and the support crew of Harry Eastham and Chloe Lace.

The challenge is organised by The Children’s Centre, and Lisa Motley the event coordinator said: ’This is a truly amazing experience and I know the team all trained long and hard over the winter to ensure their bodies were in the best possible condition to tackle this tough ride.’

The Children’s Centre thanked Old Mutual International for its sponsorship of the event and the Steam Packet for its continued support for travel on and off the island.

Lisa added: ’It is because of event sponsorship we can guarantee that all money raised goes 100% to supporting our charitable projects.’

Next year for The Children’s Centre 150th Anniversary Lisa is organising cycle challenge from London to Paris and on to Nice in the south of France covering a distance of 900 miles.
