A 10-year-old has raised almost £800 by having her long locks cut in aid of the Little Princess Trust.

Darcey Jones, from Douglas, has donated 12 inches of her hair to the charity for it to be made into a wig and has also used the event as a fundraiser to help people with cancer.

The Cronk-y-Berry School pupil was inspired by her friend, who decided to donate her hair because her aunt had cancer.

Darcey’s mother, Carole Jones, said: ’She came to me one evening before bedtime with the idea that she wanted to donate her long hair to charity, which shocked me as she hates having her hair cut.

’I was so proud of her, so I set the wheels in motion and contacted the Little Princess Trust for a fundraising pack.

’Darcey was excited as she knew that her hair would be made into a wig that would be given to a child who lost their hair through cancer and it would boost her confidence. She even donated £10 of her own money as well as her hair.

’She had her hair cut at Upmarket Salon and the staff there were incredible. They didn’t charge for the haircut and donated to the charity instead.

’Her grandparents, Jackie Jones and Rob Jones, were so proud that they flew over from England for a day trip to see her have her hair cut.

’She was shocked when she saw them in Strand Street, as they didn’t tell anybody that they were flying over to support Darcey.

’Her teachers have supported her and lots of teachers from her mum’s work and nana’s work from across.

’Darcey loves her new hair cut and is proud of what she has done and said she would like to do it again in the future. She would like to say a big thank you to everybody that has donated to the charity.’
