A sea of Santas, elves and reindeer will turn Douglas streets red and green today.

The festive fuss is due to the annual Santa Dash, which will begin at 12.30pm outside Isle of Man Bank on Prospect Hill.

Hundreds of competitors enter every year, running a lap around the town centre to raise funds towards a number of charities.

In 2017 some 187 Santas took part in the jolly.

The dash starts from Prospect Hill and heads down on to Victoria Street.

Participants then turn left onto the promenade and run along the pavement in front of the hotels before turning left past Sam Webb’s and St Thomas’ Church.

Turning onto Finch Road the dashers will make their way to the finish line, which is just outside the South Douglas Old Friends Association entrance.

This year, the winners of prizes - donated by Isle of Man Bank - will be asked to choose a charity they wish to donate the prize towards.

This will be from the following: Alzheimer’s Society; The Children’s Centre; MS IOM; Manx Breast Cancer Support Group; Craig’s Heartstrong Foundation; Bowel Cancer IOM; Hospice IOM; Cruse Bereavement Care; Oskar’s Dreams - Remember Jade; MSPCA; Special Olympics IOM or Manx MSA Trust.

Prizes will be given to the first, second and third male and female Santa, best dressed male, female and team, and 15 spot prizes.

These will be announced in South Douglas Old Friends’ Association after the Santa Dash.
