Thriller in the Villa is set to entertain more than 1,000 people this week.

The annual boxing event will kick start on Friday (October 5) at the Villa Marina where 34 volunteers will take to the ring to raise money for Manx charities Hospice Isle of Man and Rebecca House.

Chris Mooney, one of the organisers, is looking forward to the night which will be the fourth Thriller in the Villa show.

He said: ’This is by far the biggest show we have put on. We have had more volunteers than ever before especially for the Douglas versus Ramsey part of the night which has seen Ramsey win for the past three years.

’So this year Douglas really have to pull their finger out -no pressure’

He added: ’This show is now the fastest-selling home grown show the island has ever seen. We were sold out in one hour 30 minutes with a total of 1,200 tickets.’

All volunteers will get a medical check to ensure that they are all fit enough to fight.

The majority of the event will see the Douglas and Ramsey representatives battle it out.

It will also be live streamed so people at home or in a number of pubs around the island won’t miss out.

This year the crew hope to break previous records of money raised on the night with a target of £30,000 for the two charities.

Sponsoring the event is Adam Middleton Ltd, IM1 Car Centre, Douglas and Task UK.

Paul Middleton, owner of AML, said: ’It’s a privilege to be behind such a massive home-grown event and what a night it is. It’s unreal the atmosphere and we really can’t wait for the night.’

A ’trash’ talk is due to take place on the weigh-in day this Thursday (October 4) in the Villa Marina at 7pm. There is a £2 entrance fee.
