A group of disabled armed forces veterans have said they were ’blown away’ by the island’s hospitality.

The group of seven visited the island for a photography trip last month as part of the Blesma limbless veterans’ charity activities programme.

Blesma assists serving and ex-servicemen and women who have suffered life-changing injuries, including loss of a limb or their sight.

One member of the group to visit the island, Terri Hunt, contacted the Isle of Man Courier to pass on her thanks to the warm welcome they received in the island.

Terri said: ’We covered Port Erin, Douglas, Laxey and Billown to name but a few locations.

’We were blown away by the hospitality, support and welcome we received from the locals and would like to thank them all.’

During their time in the island, Terri and the other veterans were assisted by Steve Babb, who provided them with some photography advice and support and Patricia Wild, who also supported them.

The group stayed with Helen and John Masson at Ballacricket bed and breakfast in Ronague. where Terri said they received ’support, a warm welcome and outstanding service’.

She added that Helen’s ’mean breakfast’ had set them up for their days in the island.

Aside from photographing the island, the veterans went to Laxey for an ice cream, visited some of the historic sites and spent some time with Peter Murray at the motorcycle museum.

Terri said: ’We look forward to future visits and maybe the opportunity to link up with any veterans living in the island that would like to join us along the way.

’Either to take photographs or just enjoy the banter and meet up.’
